The Catholic Diocese of Mansa is a suffragan diocese located in Mansa, Zambia, under the ecclesiastical province of Kasama. It is headed by Bishop Patrick Chilekwa Chisanga and recently celebrated 120 years of evangelization in the region.
Overview
Bishop: The current bishop is Patrick Chilekwa Chisanga, who was appointed by Pope Francis in 2013 and ordained in 2014.
Cathedral: The seat of the diocese is the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral.
Expansion: To serve the large, rural Catholic population in the Luapula region, the diocese created ten new parishes between 2014 and 2018, expanding its network from 16 to 26 parishes at the time.
History
Origins: The diocese began as the Apostolic Prefecture of Fort Rosebery, which was established in 1952. Missionaries of Africa (the White Fathers) established the first Catholic mission in the area in 1905 at Lubwe.
Progression:
In 1961, the prefecture was elevated to the Diocese of Fort Rosebery.
In 1967, its name was changed to the Diocese of Mansa, following the government's renaming of the city.
120th Anniversary: On June 28, 2025, the diocese celebrated the 120th anniversary of the first mission at St. Joseph's Parish, Lubwe Mission.

In early 2025, the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary was reconsecrated following a break-in.
In 2023, the diocese participated in a pastoral theme focused on environmental care and protection, referencing St. Francis of Assisi and the common good of "Mother Earth".
